Earlier this year, Pastor Spike shared his plans to retire at the end of 2026. Since then, we’ve been prayerfully preparing a roadmap for what this season of transition will look like as we begin the search for the next Senior Pastor of Chets Creek Church. On this page, you’ll find details about the timeline, the search team, and specific ways you can join us in prayer throughout the process.

How to Pray:

God was not surprised when Pastor Spike decided to retire; their relationship spans many years.  This means God knew to prepare someone long before the retirement decision was made.  Thus, the Senior Pastor Search Process is primarily an act of discernment, i.e. discerning God’s will for our church and God’s choice for our next Senior Pastor.  Everyone at Chets can participate in this process through prayer:

  • Pray for the presence of the Holy Spirit through the entire search process that God’s will might be discerned.  Pray the Spirit might be powerfully present within the members of the Search Team both as individuals and as a group.

  • Pray for the future of our congregation that we would continue to lead people to know God and be changed by him in a way that will change the world.

  • Pray for all the ministries of our church as this transition affects many areas.  Pray also for the people of our church as Pastor Spike’s leadership has influenced so many of us.

  • Pray for the person God has already chosen to be our next Senior Pastor.  Pray the Spirit leads the Search Team to this person.  Pray the Spirit leads this person to us.  Pray all involved discern God’s will for Chets Creek Church.  Pray for the members of the search team by name to have the clarity and wisdom that only God can provide.

  • Pray for Pastor Spike and Kitty as they discern their next steps. Pray they would know what a blessing they have been to Chets and see the fruits of their ministry here.  Pray God would continue to use them in great ways to build his kingdom.
